Originally released in 2010, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was a pixelated side-scrolling beat ’em up that played out the story line from the movie of the same name, based off of the graphic novels written by Bryan Lee O’Malley.
Going through several levels as Scott Pilgrim, you fight off against low level foot soldiers to make your way through Ramona Flowers'”Evil Exes” to win her heart.
The game was styled similarly to games like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time” with pixelated sprites, colorful backgounds and a chiptune soundtrack by band Anamanaguchi.
The game was released digitally on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network, to overall good reviews. No physical release was made.
In 2014 the game and it’s DLC was de-listed from all online stores, with no explanation given. Most assume that it was due to licensing issues, which sparked a fan-driven campaign to have the game brought back for later generation consoles.
In August 2020 Bryan Lee O’Malley tweeted that Ubisoft had reached out to him, which lead to wild speculation from fans that the game would be coming back.
On September 10, 2020, during Ubisoft’s 2020 “Forward” game announcement conference, an updated trailer for the game was shown. The game was to be re-released in “Holiday 2020” on Xbox Live, Nintendo Online, Playstation Network and Steam!
